Growing up, being a nurse was something I always wanted to do. I told myself that obtaining my nursing degree is a worthwhile goal, regardless of when it happened. Over the years, I worked as an STNA and MA. I became a mother and still longed to fulfill my passion for nursing. My late father's final words to me were, "Little girl, the world needs you – whatever you do return to nursing school and obtain that dream." I enrolled in Hondros in July 2020 and earned my practical nursing license and now I am in my final term of the ADN program. I am teaching my children that no matter what life puts in your path, it is important to always reach for your goals.
I wanted to attend Hondros College of Nursing because of the timeframe Hondros offers. Mainly, the flexibility of start times during the year allowed me to work around my children's needs.
My biggest advice to anyone who is thinking of becoming a nurse is to reach out to others and allow them to help you, make dinner for you, clean your house, and be present for you and your family. It was hard for me to allow others to help me, but one thing is for sure: you need a really strong support group for you to be successful in nursing school. Without my amazing family, friends, professors, and my academic advisor here at Hondros, I wouldn't be where I am today.
