Hondros College of Nursing strictly prohibits all acts of hazing. Hazing refers to engaging in, or coercing another individual to engage in, any act related to initiation or membership in a student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of mental or physical harm to any person. This includes, but is not limited to, coercing another individual to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse.
This policy applies to all members of the campus community, including faculty, staff, students, volunteers, visitors, organizations, and groups, so long as it occurs between two or more people affiliated with the College, or between any student and organization associated with the College. Further, this policy applies whether the conduct occurs on or off-campus, including conduct that occurs in an online environment. This policy is posted on the College's public website and accessible through the Student and Faculty Portals and the College's employee intranet.
Hazing is a serious violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and subject to the Consequences of Non-Academic Misconduct presented in the Student Catalog, including dismissal from the College. Reports of hazing will be investigated by the student's Campus Executive Director; Campus Dean/Director of Nursing; Senior Vice President, Academics; and the Dean, Accreditation and Compliance to determine the College's response to the alleged misconduct, including consequences, educational requirements, and resources for the perpetrators and/or victims of hazing. The role of employees in potential hazing incidents will be investigated in conjunction with the College's Human Resources department.
Suspected incidents of hazing should be reported to the Campus Executive Director. Alternatively, instances can be reported to the Dean, Accreditation and Compliance, at [email protected]. Any College employee, consultant, or volunteer of any organization who is acting in an official and professional capacity shall immediately report the knowledge of hazing to a law enforcement agency in the county in which the victim of hazing resides or in which the hazing is occurring or has occurred.
The College will provide education on hazing for all students and employees on a regular basis. Reports regarding hazing incidents at the College will be published on the College's website.
Collin’s Law (Anti-Hazing) Report - January 2023
On July 6, 2021, Gov. Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 126 (known as “Collin’s Law”), which is designed to end hazing on college campuses across the state. The law expanded the definition of hazing to include “coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse,” increases the penalty for hazing, expands hazing reporting requirements, and more.1
As a result of the law, Hondros College of Nursing updated its Student Catalog to include the following Anti-Hazing Policy:
Hondros College of Nursing strictly prohibits all acts of hazing. Hazing refers to engaging in, or coercing another individual to engage in, any act related to initiation or membership in a student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of mental or physical harm to any person. This includes, but is not limited to, coercing another individual to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse.
Hazing is a serious violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and subject to the Consequences of Non-Academic Misconduct presented in this Catalog, including dismissal from the College.
Suspected incidents of hazing should be reported to the Campus Executive Director. Alternatively, instances can be reported to the Dean, Accreditation and Compliance, at [email protected].
The Anti-Hazing Policy and related reports on instances of hazing at the College can be found at https://www.hondros.edu/about/consumer-information/health-and-safety
The law also requires that colleges and universities prepare and publish a report detailing all instances of hazing activities every six months. This document serves to meet this reporting requirement for January 2023.
Hazing Incidents
There have been no hazing incidents at any Hondros College of Nursing locations in the last five years.
